The Guardian UK posted an article this week regarding the decision of four Swedish cinemas to display a rating that informs viewers of whether or not a movie passes the Bechdel test. The initiative is supported by the Swedish Film Institute and has also been taken up by cable TV channel Viasat Film.

Why film schools teach screenwriters not to pass the Bechdel Test.
Pretty interesting stuff. I'm not sure I'm with her when she says that it's the Hollywood establishment, rather than mainstream America, that keeps three-dimensional women characters out of mass-media entertainment. Surely there's reciprocity going on between the two, with a lot of mutual reinforcement? Anyway, the post and the comments have some fascinating tidbits. :)
